The room starts empty. There is no catalogue of books waiting for you — every single book on these shelves is one you put there.

Real books, not props

Order at the lectern and search Open Library: real titles, with their real cover art, real blurb and a working barcode of the actual ISBN.

Or paint your own

The binder lets you paint any face of a book — cover, spine, back, even the page edges. Take a real book and paint over it, and it keeps its printed spine and barcode. Photograph the spine of a book on your actual shelf and put it on one in here.

Make the room yours

• Buy shelves, seating, tables, rugs, pictures, lamps, a fireplace — everything's free
• Push the walls out when you run out of floor
• Change the floors, the walls, the lighting — hanging lamps or candlelight
• Put your favourite on a pedestal, write a private note on any copy
• Sit down and actually read

Bring people in

Your library has a share link. Send it to a friend and they walk around your room, see your books, and you'll see each other's characters. Or meet in one of four public lounges — bring one book from your shelves and talk about it.

Everything is saved in your browser, so you can just close the tab and come back. Sign in with Google if you want the library to survive a new computer.
